RN/LPN Update

The Southern Adventist University School of Nursing offers a nursing licensure update course.  This course is designed for the RN or LPN with inactive Tennessee licensure intending to re-activate a nursing license and return to practice in the State of Tennessee.  The course is now offered three times per year (Fall, Winter, and Spring) and consists of 40 clock hours of theory and 40 clock hours of clinical experiences.  The theory component includes the concepts of nursing that support current professional nursing practice.  Some of the theory component may be done online; a high speed internet connection is needed.  The clinical component is a preceptored experience and takes place at Chattanooga area health care facilities.  Clinicals are individualized to match the goals of the licensure update student.  Prerequisites to the course include application to the university, a personal interview, a background check, proof of current CPR certification (American Heart Association Health Care Provider with Defibrillator), proof of immunization, and a physician statement of health.  The cost of the licensure update course is $460.00 for tuition and $50.00 (refundable) for use of audiovisual materials.  Interested individuals are encouraged to contact the Tennessee Board of Nursing at 800-778-4123 to inquire about their eligibility to enroll in an update course.  To request a packet of information about the course contact Kerry Allen, course coordinator, at  kcallen@southern.edu
